The Downsize — what it's worth, what to bundle, what to list

The answer in four lines

Realistic total, if you sell it right: $900 to $2,400. Up to roughly $3,500 if three specific coin-flips land your way.

Do not bundle everything for $850. Your top eight items alone probably beat that number on their own.

The split is roughly 12 items listed solo, everything else swept into three or four local-pickup lots.

Six items I could not price because your description matches two very different products. Those six are worth $40 or $450 depending on which one you own — check them first, they are most of the upside.

Read this before you trust any number below

Honesty gate

eBay put its sold-listings data behind a login wall, and PriceCharting blocks automated fetching. Some of what follows came through a proxy and is genuine sold-comp data; some of it is reconstructed from active asking prices, dealer listings and PicClick mirrors. An asking price is not a value. Every row carries a confidence rating, and where a number is ask-derived it says so.

Practical consequence: before you set a price on anything in the $100-plus tier, log into eBay yourself, search the item, and tick the Sold Items filter. That takes ninety seconds and it is the only source that settles the question. Treat this document as the map that tells you which ninety seconds are worth spending.

Tier A — list these solo, they carry the whole sale

Correction worth knowing

The received wisdom is that the Future Press Dark Souls guides are the crown jewel of a collection like this. The comps do not support that as strongly as expected. The highest confirmed sold figure across every guide researched was the Fallout: New Vegas CE guide at $100-125 sealed — not Dark Souls. The Dark Souls guides are genuinely scarce (Future Press print runs were small, resellers report near-zero restock), but the eye-catching $80-110 numbers attached to them mostly belong to the Remastered edition or are unconfirmed asks. Treat Dark Souls as a strong hypothesis to verify, not an established grail.

Same story in reverse for Elden Ring: Books of Knowledge. Despite the scalping reputation, actual confirmed sold prices are $5-20. That market is oversupplied. Do not hold it waiting for a number that is not coming.

Tier B — six coin-flips. Check these before anything else.

Cannot price until you look

Each of these matched two different real products in your description. The gap between them is most of your upside, and it takes about ten minutes with the items in hand to settle all six.

One more, lower stakes but free money

Your Switch may be an unpatched console. The Let's Go bundle shipped November 2018, right before Nintendo's hardware revision. Unpatched original-model Switches sell above standard complete-in-box comps to the modding buyer pool. Read the full serial off the bottom sticker and check it against ismyswitchpatched.com. If it lands in an unpatched range, say so in the listing — it is a premium, and disclosing it either way is the honest move.

Also: your spare empty Switch box is worth $8-15 if it's the generic black retail box, and closer to $20 if it's the Pokémon-themed one — which it should be, given the second unit went to Hungary. Empty boxes are a real if small collector market. List it explicitly as "EMPTY BOX ONLY" to stay clear of eBay's misleading-listing rules.

Tier C — bundle these for local pickup

Do not ship the magazines

Magazines carrying advertising do not qualify for USPS Media Mail. Forty-five issues is realistically an 11-20 lb package, $18-35 to ship domestically — which meets or exceeds the entire lot's value. Local pickup at $20-30, or donate. This era is not rare and is not worth storage or repeat relist cycles.

Tier D — honestly, don't bother

The RAM. Typical 2-4GB DDR3 sticks sell for about $5 a matched pair. Below 4GB per stick it is recycler material, not resale. Only 8GB+ sticks in matched pairs clear $10-15 and are worth five minutes.
Demon's Souls PS5 Digital Deluxe. Digital license. No secondary market exists at all.
12 Rules for Life and Beyond Order. Tens of millions printed. $9-10 each unsigned. Into the book lot. If either is signed, pull it out.
Your PS5. You said you're keeping it, and you should. It's worth about $400 right now — but that number is inflated by the 2026 DRAM shortage pushing new units toward $650, not by any collector premium. The launch disc model actually sells for $40-70 less than a PS5 Slim in equivalent condition. It's a market-timing high on a console you use, not a collectible.

Your bundle-versus-individual question, answered with the math

The rule

List solo if the item is worth $40 or more AND ships under about 5 lb. Bundle for local pickup if it's under $40 OR it's bulky.

That threshold is not arbitrary. eBay takes 13.6% of the total (item price plus shipping plus tax), plus $0.40 per order. Books and media sit higher, around 15.3%. On a $15 item that stack plus your packaging time eats 25-40%. On a $250 item it's a rounding error against the price discovery you gain.

On your $850-for-everything instinct: that would be a real loss. The Halo 4 console, the Switch bundle, the Pip-Boy and the Destiny Ghost are plausibly $1,000 between them before you touch anything else. More importantly, the buyer pools do not overlap — a Destiny Ghost collector, a Pip-Boy collector and an AC statue collector are typing completely different searches into eBay. A "video game collector's edition lot" is invisible to all three and reaches only generalist flippers, who lowball by design. Bundles price to the cheapest item in them, not the sum.

The one bundling trap to avoid specifically: do not fold the Halo 4 console into a generic "Xbox 360 lot with accessories." Its entire premium over a plain Xbox 360 S — roughly $220 versus $50 — is Halo 4 branded collector demand. Someone searching "Halo 4 Xbox 360" will never see it inside a lot title. That single mistake would cost you about 70% of that item's value.

Platforms — and yes, buyers can reach you without you paying up front

On buyers reaching you: yes, and two ways. Turn on Best Offer — buyers submit a price, you have 24 hours to accept, counter or decline. Separately, buyers can just message you through the listing before committing to anything, and you can reply with a custom private offer (up to three, each good for 96 hours). You can also proactively message everyone watching an item with a discount. You never front any money for any of this.

On the AI-search idea

You were thinking people search with AI now, and directionally you're right — eBay already gets roughly 10% of its referral traffic from ChatGPT, and most of ChatGPT's shopping data comes through Google Shopping feeds. But that plumbing is built for new retail inventory with GTIN and MPN identifiers, which one-off used items don't have, and you have zero control over eBay's feed-level schema anyway.

The useful version of that instinct: write titles the old-fashioned keyword way — full product name, platform, edition name, "CIB" or "complete in box," condition. That is what eBay's own search parses, and it happens to be what any AI layer sitting on top of it parses too. So you get the benefit without chasing it. Don't spend extra effort on "AI optimization" specifically; it's marginal in 2026.

Listings — keyword title for eBay, human title for local

eBay titles are a search index, not prose — cram the keywords in, and save the voice for the first line of the description where it actually gets read. Craigslist and Facebook are the opposite: those are browsed by humans scrolling, so the title carries the personality.

Why this works

It's specific, it says why you're selling, it prices in one line and it doesn't oversell. The word "downsizing" does more for a local listing than any adjective — it tells the buyer the price is real and you're not going to haggle for an hour.

Your ten-minute checklist before you list anything

Flip the PS3 over and read the model sticker. CECHA00/A01 is the $280 one.
Flip the PS4 over. CUH-1xxx fat, CUH-2xxx Slim, CUH-7xxx Pro.
Open the Elden Ring box. Statue, or just a steelbook?
Measure the Dark Souls figure and look for a maker stamp.
Read the spine of every Marvel book. Omnibus, Masterworks or Taschen means stop and look it up.
Is the "Vault Dweller" thing a book or a box with a wearable device?
Press the button on the Destiny Ghost. Does it light up?
Read the Switch serial off the bottom and check it at ismyswitchpatched.com.
Read the actual edition name off every Assassin's Creed box — Black/White, Animus, Freedom, Bastille, Rooks, Charing Cross. They range $25 to $400 and "AC2 I think" can't be priced.

The Reddit post

Not found. Three public searches across r/hardwareswap, r/GameSale, r/gamecollecting, r/consoledeals and r/buildapcsales turned up nothing for u/aCataclysm or its spelling variants. No login-gated search was attempted.

Most likely explanations: r/hardwareswap mods routinely remove expired listings, the post aged out of Google's index, or the username is slightly different from what you remember. If you want it, the move is not more Google queries — it's opening reddit.com/user/aCataclysm/submitted while logged in, or checking a Pushshift-style archive mirror, both of which see deleted posts Google never indexed.

No confirmed eBay sold data. The sold-listings filter requires a login this environment doesn't have. Roughly half the figures here are reconstructed from asking prices and dealer listings, which run high. Verify anything above $100 yourself.
Six items unresolved — the Tier B table. Not guessed, deliberately left open, because guessing wrong on the Elden Ring one alone is a $410 error.
